Rosa 'Burgundy Iceberg'This year, the back garden was intended to be intensely dark, smoldering colors - the Copper leafed Physocarpus, dark red calla lilies and sumptuous, plum colored roses.
Somehow (damned impulse buys) the colors wavered over into 'berry', then 'cherry', sliding up through the color wheel to red, scarlet and then, dreadfully - shrimp pink. A few leftover cream colored poppies (really, an insipid, washy yellow) were tucked in here and there - and then one day a truly hideous bright mauve phlox appeared - and once again - it's time to edit. Fortunately, I have extremely nurturing neighbors.
Zantedeschia 'Edge of Night' with Physocarpus 'Diablo'.
Unknown, but much loved rose. Most likely an Austin rose - maybe Prospero?
And finally, Dahlia 'Seduction' - a fitting name indeed!

I laughed as you described how your colours veered from what you originally planned. The unknown rose is so beautiful as is 'Burgundy Iceberg' ...
Dahlia 'Seduction' is a perfect name - it has seduced me. I have never been a big Dahlia fan, but next summer, I'm going to try some (they photograph so beautifully!)
Kate,
Thank you for stopping by Garden Grit.
I was entranced by the writing and photography on your blog, which I found through Fairegarden. It's such a pleasure to 'meet' all the other garden bloggers.
I agree, I originally thought Dahlias coarse and boring. But some of the newer introductions are lovely.

Your writing makes me smile... How many of us have done the same thing? The color in the photographs is amazing and it makes want to run to my garden. Fabulous...
This post made me laugh too... esp the part about the phlox! My nemesis is orange. Once, long ago in a universe far away, I planted nasturtiums. And cape honeysuckle (actually I didn't plant it so much as tear it out and throw it down somewhere else...)
Your flowers and posts are delightful. Thank you for your lovely note on my blog, too!
