Almost more enticing are the numerous seed catalogs that appear in my mailbox, promising a bounty of glorious, scented blooms for a relatively small outlay of cash.

I have several flats of plants left over from Abby's visit, still patiently waiting to be planted out, and an enormous bag of seeds from 2008 that I've not yet sown. And yet I continue to pore over the catalogs every evening, browse on-line, roam the nurseries - flushed of face, fixated on the score - a bona fide plant addict.

I'm with you! I think all the stores you mentioned are filled with overpriced, unnecessary crap. I shop at thrift stores, which means I can spend more at plant sales! :)
Karen -
Thank you for stopping by Garden Grit!
I'm with you there - I cut corners wherever possible in order to have more to spend on my garden.
You have a lovely blog, by the way -

What fruit trees do you have?
Chuck,
I have two Santa Rosa plums, an Anna apple (they tolerate the lack of chill pretty well) and a Hachiya persimmon. Also, three magnolias, a chitalpa (desert willow), and a gorgeous orange flowered tree that Abby brought down one time, stuffed into the trunk of her car.
Gotta do a post sometime about that!

oh i SO empathize! The nursery around the corner from me has all the bare root roses out now, and its like honey to a bee...
Karen has it right about the thrift stores for "stuff"! Yesterday I scored a gorgeous crystal wine glass and candleholder for 1.50 at my favorite thrift shop...
