Boronia - A Gift for Abigail

Abigail has a very sophisticated sense of color - coral, rust, gold, olive and sage green. In addition, her plant palette is is beautiful and unusual - and pushes the zonal envelope more than a bit!

So when I spotted this plant last week, I actually gave a little scream. I knew it was meant for Abigail. (I'll be visiting her next month)

But when I got home, I noticed something.

It looked absolutely fantastic with this:

And this:

And for a few moments, I actually considered planting it in my own garden. And when I showed up on her doorstep, sans Boronia, I would simply tell her it had died.

Fortunately, my better self prevailed: the plant will soon grace Abigail's garden - and she will no doubt come up with some splendid companions for it.

Had to look this one up - from Australia, zones 9-10 only so not for me. Too bad, I love the color and the little rosemary-like needle leaves. Your friend is lucky! Nice of you, as it would have looked great with your freesia (?) and hellebore.

Karen,

Yes! It is from Australia, and difficult to maintain in cultivation. But I think in a pot (sharp drainage) it should do well.

The colors really have to be seen, to be believed. Those dark purple flowers with the acid green insides are almost shocking in their beauty.

My goodness, such a complement! Now I'll have to live up to that comlement and put some pictures on the blog other than daffodils and primrose! And thanks for the boronia!

Oh I'd have had a hard time not keeping the Boronia for myself. The flower is beautiful. I love the colours!

Abigail,

I had to make it a matter of public record so that the plant actually ends up with you!

The compliment is well deserved - your garden is a real inspiration to so many people.

Your evil twin comes to the fore! If you were like me, you would always get one for yourself too. That's what I do when I give someone a gift that I covet. I get one too! The recipients must hate it. Good on you for the self-control. The Boronia is gorgeous and classy. --Diana H

That's a great idea - unfortunately, as with a lot of unusual plants, it was a 'one of' at the nursery.
